Wireless Troubleshooting Guide
SCAD broadcasts two wireless networks to support different types of devices:
🔐 SCAD Secure Wireless
Recommended for:
Benefits:
- Seamless roaming across campus buildings
- No need to reauthenticate when moving between locations
📺 SCAD Wireless
Recommended for:
- Smart TVs
- Game consoles
- Streaming devices (e.g., Apple TV, Fire Stick, Fire Cube)
IMPORTANT: These devices must be registered through the Clearpass Portal before connecting to SCAD Wireless. See the Clearpass Device Registration Guide for more information. Once registered, they will connect automatically without prompting for a SCAD username or password.
To Connect:
- Go to the Clearpass Portal
- Log in using your SCAD username and password
- Enter the following details:

Device Name (e.g., “Cody’s Xbox”)

Device Type (select from the dropdown)

Wireless MAC Address (not the Ethernet MAC address)

Residence Hall (select your building)
- Click Register Device to complete the process
- Connect to SCAD Wireless on your device
NOTE: Once successfully registered, your device will not prompt for a SCAD username or password when connecting.
🔧 Troubleshooting SCAD Secure Wireless
If you're having trouble connecting, try resetting your device’s network settings:
🖥️ Windows
- Click Start → open Control Panel
- Select View network status and tasks or Network and Sharing Center
- Click Manage wireless networks (left panel)
- Remove each saved network:
- Click Remove from the toolbar, or
- Right-click and choose Forget Wireless Connection
- Restart your device
- Reconnect to SCAD_Secure_Wireless
🍎 macOS
- Click the Apple icon → System Preferences
- Select Network
- Choose your Wi-Fi connection
- Click Advanced
- Remove saved networks using the minus (-) button
- Click OK, restart your device, and reconnect to SCAD_Secure_Wireless
📱 iPhone / iPad
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi
- Tap the blue “i” next to the network
- Tap Forget This Network
- Reconnect to SCAD_Secure_Wireless
🤖 Android
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi
- Ensure Wi-Fi is turned on
- Tap the network you want to forget
- Tap Forget network
- Reconnect to SCAD_Secure_Wireless
🏠 Smart Devices on SCAD Wireless (Residence Halls)
Setup Steps:
- Log into the Clearpass Portal
- Verify that your device’s wireless MAC address is correct
- Save and continue
- Power off the device (unplug) for at least 10 minutes
- Turn the device back on
- Connect to SCAD Wireless
🛠️ Troubleshooting Tips:
- ✅ Make sure you're using the wireless MAC address, not the Ethernet MAC address
- ✅ Set your device’s IP address to dynamic (DHCP)
- 🔄 Try a factory reset, then reconnect to SCAD Wireless
🌐 DNS Settings
Ensure DNS is set to automatic. If manually configured, use:
